Welcome
to Ursula Gropper Associates, specializing in 20th century
fine art photographs. Available works include renowned 20th century
and contemporary photographers Sebastiao Salgado, Henri Cartier-Bresson,
Berenice Abbott, Peter Stackpole, Michael Kenna and George
Rodger. We provide photographs to museums, galleries, dealers
and collectors worldwide.
Ursula Gropper has worked professionally to promote, sell and distribute
fine art photography for over thirty years. Photography as fine
art was presented as early as 1974 when, in conjunction with her
partner, Tom Meyer, she founded Grapestake Gallery in San Francisco.
Photographs were exhibited concurrently with painting and sculpture
in order to introduce and validate photographs as a fine art and
collecting medium. The gallery opened with an Ansel Adams retrospective
and later exhibited such artists as Harry Callahan, Joel Meyerowitz,
Paul Strand, Richard Misrach, Berenice Abbott and Jerry Uelsmann.
Grapestake Gallery closed in 1984 but Ursula Gropper continues to
promote photographs as an independent dealer. This includes representation
and sales for such artists as Sebastião Salgado and Peter
Stackpole, for whom she arranges exhibitions in galleries and museums.
In addition to offering photographs from our inventory, we assist
collectors in locating and acquiring fine art photographs. If you
are looking for a specific photograph or photographer, we would
be pleased to assist you in locating it through our extensive network,
even if it is by a photographer not listed on this site.
